1.What happens during a Baby Naming ceremony?

The ceremonies are similar to weddings where as they follow a certain order of events.

  • Greeting
  • Invocation/prayer, or if non-religious an opening poem
  • Words to the parents
  • Parental promise
  • Words to Godparents
  • Declaration of baby’s name and its significance
  • Naming of Grandparents
  • Blessing with oil or water depending on the ceremony
  • Candle lighting or other element such as poem etc..
  • Closing prayer, blessing or poem

The order of the ceremony does not have to flow in this order.  The order can be changed and elements can be removed. I can even add something that is not on the list.  The ceremony that is created should be representative of you and your loved ones beliefs and traditions.  Also remember that all ceremonies may include Grandparents, siblings or other special people in your life.
